The National Research Platform for Zoonoses aims to promote networking in zoonoses research not only between institutes and disciplines, but also between career stages. For this reason, since 2012, the National Symposium on Zoonoses Research has also included a breakfast, which gives young scientists the opportunity to talk to established scientists at the symposium.
In 2016, the Junior Scientist Breakfast took place in the proven manner on the last morning of the symposium in Berlin. As part of the promotion of young scientists of the National Research Platform for Zoonoses, prospective researchers had the opportunity to get in touch with renowned people in zoonoses research during a relaxed breakfast. This gave them the opportunity to find out about individual job descriptions and career options and to expand their scientific network.

This year's participating Senior Scientists came from different areas of zoonoses research in Germany. This year's participants were Prof. Dr. Sascha Al-Dahouk (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Berlin), Prof. Dr. Christa Ewers (Justus-Liebig-University Gießen), Prof. Dr. Alex Greenwood (Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research & Free University Berlin), Prof. Dr. Dr. Sascha Al-Dahouk (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Berlin), Prof. Dr. Christa Ewers (Justus-Liebig-University Gießen), Prof. Dr. Alex Greenwood (Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research & Free University Berlin), Prof. Dr. Ilse Jacobsen (Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology-Hans-Knöll-Institut, Jena) and Dr. Annika Schielke (Robert Koch Institute, Berlin), who shared their experiences with the young scientists.
The Junior Scientist Breakfast 2016 was attended by 20 young scientists from five nations. Since the format again met with a very positive response from all participants, it is planned to retain the concept for the 2017 symposium as part of the promotion of young scientists.
