In the run-up to the National Symposium on Zoonoses Research 2011, the National Research Platform for Zoonoses organized a PhD Workshop/Summer School in Berlin from October 3 - 5, 2011 for all PhD students researching in the field of zoonoses. Cases of monkeypox in humans were reported from the United Kingdom in the begining of June 2022. According to initial estimates, these were due to a traveler returning from Nigeria who is believed to have contracted the zoonotic virus in the African country.
